Werder Bremen starts preseason with renewed energy

After a 57-day break, Werder Bremen has begun preseason training under coach Daniel Thioune (51). The team aims to turn the page after a disappointing season (15th place, 32 points, 8 wins, 8 draws, 18 losses).

What’s new at Werder?

Five new signings are already training: Kenny Quetant (19), Chuki (22), Oskar Wojcik (22), Dariusz Stalmach (20), and goalkeeper Karl Hein (24). World Cup players Cedric Itten (29) and Alexander Schlager (30) will join later. Manager Clemens Fritz (45) says: „We want to look forward, not backward.“

Why the attack needs reinforcement

With only 37 goals last season, Werder’s offense was too weak. Fritz: „We still need a top striker, a fullback, and a midfielder.“ The new signings should lay the foundation for a successful campaign.

What’s next?

Besides transfer plans, there are personnel changes: Axel Zehle (51) becomes the new mental coach, Julian Webendörfer takes over as kit manager. Fans hope for a better season – and less suffering.
