Werder Bremen has found an important player in Olivier Deman. The Belgian was the best player in his third season at Werder and has developed into a regular starter. Initially written off, then persevering, Deman has established himself at Werder in the last season. The 26-year-old left-back has taken a positive development under new coach Daniel Thioune and has given the team a lot with his intensity, football intelligence, and passing accuracy. Professional chief Peter Niemeyer told BILD: „The new system suits him. It's hard for me to talk about a winner after this season. But he has taken a very positive development and given the team a lot with his intensity, football intelligence, and passing accuracy.“ Deman himself says: „We are now experiencing not only the best Olivier Deman at Werder, but in general.“ In the first two seasons under former coach Ole Werner, he could only rarely demonstrate his abilities, and was loaned to Royal Antwerpen in his hometown in the winter of 2024/25 for match practice. His flaw: Deman could indeed deliver dangerous crosses, but he was not a high-speed winger. Surprisingly, in the last season, he was the fourth fastest Bremen player with a top speed of 34.66 km/h. Meanwhile, it had looked like a transfer in the winter. Italian first division club Parma was interested, but Werder blocked the move. Deman stayed and played his way into the starting lineup despite Felix Agu's injury. „He's suddenly indispensable for us“, Thioune praised him. Now Deman is going into his fourth season at Werder and has good chances of playing even with a healthy Felix Agu. Deman has a contract until 2028 and will continue to be an important player for Werder Bremen. His development is a positive sign for the team's future.
