Werder Bremen attracts Austrian footballers. Five women and four men from Austria currently play at the Weser. Sport Director Clemens Fritz and ÖFB team player Chiara D'Angelo explain the fascination with Werder. Two questions had to be answered by Alexander Schlager before the most important one came. "As an Austrian, one must have played for Werder somehow, or?", was asked the ÖFB team goalkeeper after his transfer to Werder Bremen. Schlager laughed, it was "already nice" how many Austrians had kicked here over the years. "It makes it easier, of course, if people already know the Austrians a bit. But I'm a very uncomplicated person, so I'm just happy to be here now." Chiara D'Angelo (left) is one of five Austrians at Werder Bremen. The previous season, the Werder women finished in a strong sixth place. Werder Bremen is currently 15th in the Bundesliga, with 32 points from 34 games. The last three games lost the Bremen with 0:2, 0:3 and 0:2. Werder Bremen is 57 points behind Bayern Munich.
