Werder Bremen lets midfielder Romano Schmid go. The 26-year-old Austrian joins Serie-A-promoter Frosinone Calcio in Italy. The Bremen are set to receive a high single-digit million amount. The sum could rise to up to ten million through bonuses. Schmid's transfer market value is estimated at around 15 million euros. The Austrian international was signed by Werder in 2019 and initially loaned out. Since 2020, he has been part of the Bremen squad. At the last World Cup, Schmid drew attention to himself. His contract with the North Germans was still valid until June 2027. In order to receive a transfer fee at all, Werder had to let the key player go already this summer. Through the income, the Bremen can now be active on the transfer market again. As a replacement for Schmid in the offensive midfield, the already signed young Spaniard Chuki (22) is considered. Werder is still looking for reinforcements in the storm and for the defense. Currently, Werder is in 15th place in the Bundesliga, with 32 points from 34 games. The Bremen have scored 37 goals and conceded 60 in the last season. They are 57 points behind the league leaders Bayern München. The last game ended with a 0:2 defeat against Borussia Dortmund. In the last five games, Werder has not won a single game.
