Justin Njinmah could be back in action for Werder Bremen sooner than anticipated. The forward resumed individual training on Monday morning, having suffered a thigh injury in the match against SC Freiburg in late August.
Peter Niemeyer, the club's professional chief, gave a positive update on the rehabilitation progress. He said the player feels good and is making progress. The club is being cautious but optimistic that he might return to the pitch earlier than initially expected. A comeback in October is considered possible, though not yet certain.
Besides Njinmah, head coach Daniel Thioune is without several other players. Eren Dinkci is absent due to illness, while Senne Lynen and Moussa Ndiaye are also sidelined. Long-term absentees are Keke Topp and Jens Stage. Also, some Werder players are currently away on international duty.
Njinmah's return would be a significant boost for the attack of the team sitting eighth in the Bundesliga. Werder currently have seven points from four matches. Their next fixture is away against league leaders Borussia Dortmund on October 9. Niclas Füllkrug, currently Werder's top scorer, could face competition from Njinmah upon his return. The last five matches yielded three wins, one draw and one defeat.
