Werder Bremen are unexpectedly searching for a new squad planner. Markus Pilawa has left the Bundesliga club with immediate effect after just four months in the role.

Sporting director Clemens Fritz confirmed the departure of the 49-year-old. Fritz stated that Pilawa had openly communicated his decision. "We respect it, even though we regret his departure," the Werder executive said. Pilawa himself commented, "They were very intense months at a great club."

The former chief scout at Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich had only joined Bremen in May as the successor to Johannes Jahns. Jahns was released following the previous disappointing season. Pilawa has now left the club for personal reasons. His duties will be temporarily distributed internally, with a successor to be named later.

The search for a new squad planner comes during a solid start to the season for Werder. Under manager Ole Werner, the team sits eighth in the table with seven points from four matches. Their record shows two wins, one draw, and one defeat. Recent form reads three wins, one draw, and one loss. The next challenge awaits on October 9th away at league leaders Borussia Dortmund. An overview of the team is also available in our squad section.

The sporting leadership under Clemens Fritz must now act swiftly to ensure planning security for the upcoming transfer windows.
