Ludovit Reis has spoken about his first impressions following his transfer to Werder Bremen. The midfielder, signed from Club Brugge before the season, expressed his satisfaction with his start in Bremen during a mixed-zone interview on Wednesday afternoon.
"I was well received by the club and the guys. I'm happy to be here." Reis said. His wife will join him next week, the 25-year-old added. The new signing emphasised that a good feeling during talks with Werder was decisive for his move.
Why Reis chose Werder
His transfer came after a period where he struggled with a shoulder injury at Brugge. "I had a year in Brugge where I struggled with a shoulder injury for a long time." Reis explained. This positive instinct has been confirmed so far. He even scored a goal in his first test match for the club.
One of Reis's major tasks will be to help fill the void left by the injury to Jens Stage. Stage is among the long-term absentees, a list that also includes Felix Agu, Justin Njinmah, Senne Lynen and Eren Dinkçi. Reis made it clear that Stage cannot be replaced like-for-like. "You can't replace Jens Stage, he has immense quality," the Dutchman said. Instead, the team must integrate his own qualities and replace Stage collectively. Reis praised the strong togetherness within the squad. He immediately felt a strong unity, both on and off the pitch. This positive mood was also evident in the first home game against RB Leipzig, where he made his Weserstadion debut. He analysed the performance in Freiburg and noted the team was ready against Leipzig. The close bond between the club and its fans also left a positive impression on him. "You notice in Bremen that Werder is a family club," he summarised.
In the league, Werder currently sits in 10th place in the Bundesliga with three points from two games. Their record shows one win and one loss, with four goals scored and five conceded. The next challenge comes on Saturday, September 12th, away to 11th-placed 1. FC Köln. This makes the away fixture a direct duel for mid-table positioning. Reis and his teammates aim to carry the positive energy from the Leipzig game and take the next step in Cologne.
