Debut with a Goal
The 26-year-old Dutchman Ludovit Reis entered his first match for Werder Bremen in the DFB-Pokal against Oberliga side Lüneburger SK Hansa as part of the build-up. Within less than 30 seconds he had the chance to reward himself with a touch in the Werder jersey, but missed from a promising position. Only in the closing phase did he score with a left-footed shot from the penalty-box corner, the goal being completed by a decisive deflection.
Position Switch and Involvement
Reis started the match in the eighth position - a role he knows well from his time at Hamburger SV. There he was expected to make deep runs and prove himself in tight spaces. After the break he moved to the sixth position, where he noticeably increased his involvement. Coach Daniel Thioune noted that in this role Reis had the game in front of him and could win more balls. Reis himself explained on “Sky” that the second half was about holding the balls.
Man-of-the-Match Award
With more than 100 ball contacts and an overall courageous performance, Reis was presented with the Man-of-the-Match trophy after 90 minutes on the pitch. Thioune stressed that with a debut goal “not much better could have happened” and that Reis still has potential to grow on both positions.
Fans, Atmosphere and Reactions
The match took place in Hamburg, where nearly 20,000 Werder fans loudly supported the newcomer. At the same time Reis was heckled in the Lüneburger stand, where many HSV supporters were present. Sports director Clemens Fritz said that Reis can handle the whistles well and emphasized that the team stands together. Reis himself spoke positively: “I was taken in very well by the club. I feel really comfortable here and I’m really excited.”
Outlook
Reis delivered a strong performance in his first game for Werder, praised by fans and coaches alike. With his versatility and desire to develop further, he is likely to play an important role in upcoming matches.
