Werder Bremen has ceased its pursuit of striker Fynn Walenziak. Negotiations with VfL Bochum for the forward's transfer were definitively called off this week.
The 24-year-old had been a target for Bremen's attack over an extended period. Following internal deliberations, the club decided against continuing the talks. This means Walenziak, whose contract with Bochum runs until 2027, remains with the Bundesliga rival for now.
Focus shifts to other targets
With the Walenziak move off the table, Werder is now focusing on other options for its forward line. The officials around sporting director Clemens Fritz continue to monitor the market, with loan deals also under consideration. The decision reflects a strategic prioritisation after several new signings were already completed in the current transfer window.
In parallel, the club is discussing potential loan departures from its own squad. Especially for young players who cannot secure a starting spot, a temporary move to another club is being considered to gain match practice.
